Stilettos During the Day…Toilet Brush At Night

I have the dream job.  I design and sell women’s shoes, heels, pumps, flats….. Each morning I get to dress up in the latest and greatest to go to work. Wearing a new pair of stilettos that was delivered to the store the day before, I spend my day blogging, reporting on, and delivering the newest and most fashionable shoes to all of my sisters of our Shoe Sorority. ( Send your email to Deborah@DeborahStilettos.com and I will be sure to sign you up.) The days are fun and glamorous.

Then five o’clock arrives.  I drive the short distance between my office/store and my home still in a good mood from all the goodies I was able to take a sneak peek on during my afternoon.   With the twist of my front door knob, I suddenly transform into Cinderella after the clock struck midnight. Words from my day like “fashionably affordable and stunning stilettos” are replaced with “why do I need another mess?”

My son who I picked up from weight lifting just moments earlier has found himself strategically placed on the couch unable to lift the garbage bag from the overflowing can in the kitchen.  My older son who tells me on a daily basis that he hates his science class has turned my kitchen counter into a laboratory test center to see how fast mold can grow on a glass of orange juice poured before he left for school.  My twenty year old daughter, who likes to regularly remind me on how she will manage her home more efficiently has left an empty bag of dog food on my living room chair.  Perhaps it is a new interior design technique I am unaware.

My heels pop off, the oven goes on and I have learned how to spray the Endust can far enough to hit three pieces of furniture at a time.  Then I silently laugh to myself.  The title of motherhood is one I have held longer than any other position at any other company.  Who would have ever known I go from being the Queen of Heels during the day to Princess of the Potty Brush at night?

Licking White, Sticky Marshmallows Off Your Fingers While Still Wearing Heels

If you live in the Northeast corridor of the United States like I do, you got pretty much jipped out of a winter.  I must confess, I personally thrilled that global warming has come to town (only kidding) because the winter and me…not exactly friends.  I hate being cold and after about an hour of cars and trucks driving through the newly fallen snow it loses its Norman Rockwell appeal.

However, there are somethings that are just wonderful about winter.  It’s a great time to cuddle, wear fabulous boots, and enjoy roaring fireplaces…but it’s also a lot of fun to make your own homemade marshmallows!  Let’s face it…you are running out in the morning trying to get the kids off to school before rushing to work.  You are busy as soon as you get home at your other full-time job of being a mother.  Dinner has to be made, floors have to be swept, dishes need to be done.  I often wonder if my kids would recognize me without a laundry basket in my hands.

Maybe tonight you put all of that on hold and make these amazingly easy and scrumptuous homemade marshmallows.  The ingredients are pretty basic but double-check the list to see if you have everything because some of the ingredients are not readily available in a modern-day kitchen.  If you have little kids, they will be amazed as the marshmallows take form in the mixer.  Teenagers?  Just make them and watch their eyes widen with delight. If you are feeding teenage boys…double the recipe.  If by some chance you have made it to mile marker two and all of your kids are grown…light some candles and put on some soft music.  The marshmallows will do the rest.  When you make them you will understand what I mean.  I just suggest that you wear a nice pair of stilettos while doing so.

I hope you enjoy these as much as my family has and the guests I have made them.

Kisses Bellas…and remember…”the right shoe can change your life”…and enjoyment of marshmallows.

My Deep Dark Secret…and the Hope I Found Through Heels

I am about to step out of my comfort zone and open my deep dark closet for everyone who reads this to see.  There will be some that will read this and question my need to put this in writing and others who know me may be shocked or saddened to learn of what I am about to share.  While I appreciate those of you who fall into either of those categories for taking the time to read this blog, you are not the one I am writing to…I am writing to the woman who needs to hear this.

My life at one time was full of dreams and happy moments.  They were so happy quite frankly that I could never have imagined things turning out the way they did.  But as I look back, there were clues…clues I saw, clues I tripped on and clues I fell over and for some curious reason I continued down the path.  I came from a small town and had protective parents and two younger brothers.  My world was pretty small and sheltered.  I was like every young girl.  I dated, had my heart-broken, laughed a lot, hung out with my friends, and went to college.  School was my thing.  I loved learning and I was good at it.  I received awards, accomplished goals, and met a man who I would eventually call my husband.

Soon I took a path…the path down the wedding aisle, the path to children and a very dark path I couldn’t find my way out of for a very long time.  The years collected and so did the clues.  The changes didn’t happen over night.  They were slow and methodical.  At first, I thought I was just becoming too sensitive as I got older.  I then blamed it on the pressures of life and the demands of having children.  Things progressively got worse  and as they did my excuses became larger and more unreasonable.

And while this was a slow progression, when I finally woke up to see how my life was eroding away, I was not the same girl who left her small hometown.  I was a grown woman who had been ripped to shreds by the razor-sharp tongue by the man she thought loved her.  I became frightened of the phone that it was surely going to deliver another round of stinging words strung together to destroy what was left of my heart and soul.  My closet became my safe haven and I found myself constantly worried about my children, my finances, and my ability to endure the next crisis.

What happen to the girl who was destined to do great things?  How did she become this frightened woman unable to free herself from the grips of abuse?  To this day, I don’t know the answer and yet I find myself asking it over and over.

Then one day…the pot boiled over and a force greater than myself guided me to safety.  I cried, agonized, felt guilt ridden that I had left…a sickness some may call it.  But for me, I felt damaged.  I didn’t think my soul would ever repair.  In some ways, I was not even sure I had enough to go on but I woke up everyday because my children needed me.  I got dressed, put make up on, and functioned the best I could.  Little by little, I started a company.  Not every day was great but everyday was better than what I had left.  Tears slowly stopped flowing and I was actually surprised to hear myself laugh again.  Every milestone I reached allowed me to replace my fears with confidence.  The mountains were still there to climb but I was no longer doing it in bare feet.  I was prepared and gave myself moments to think my own thoughts.

I am free now… Free of the abuse and the unacceptable….free to be in love and be loved in return…free to make my own choices…and free to be in the company of others or in the peace of my own being.  Leaving was one of the hardest decisions I have ever made but it is the greatest gift I have ever given myself.  You only get one life…no do overs, no refunds!  You have the right to be happy…the right to be loved…the right to be appreciated…the right to live without fear.  This may not be your story but if it is…there’s hope.   And this is why a portion of every sale from Deborah Stilettos is used to help area programs fight the horrible effects of this violence.  Cinderella was right when she said “the right shoe can change your life.”

Wearing Your Heart on Your Foot?

This month I was lucky enough to attend the world’s largest shoe show in Las Vegas.  It was nothing short of spectacular as all of the famous and not so famous designers carried their shoes from the four corners of the world to show what they had to offer for the spring.

These little dazzlers caught my eye on day two of the Magic and Platform show held at the Las Vegas Convention Center.  These were a little different then the shoes that normally catch my eye because the little beauties are on a two-inch heel.  I am a stiletto girl at heart…but as you can see…these kitten heels had all the heart they needed.

Love these- $39.95 at Deborah Stilettos- Pre Order Now!!!

There is so much to love about these heels.  First, the heel is unique and adorable.  They will definitely catch the eye of those walking by which of course is what all of us women want.  The heart heel is also only two inches high making this shoe a possibility for many more women.  There are just some days you know that you will be doing a lot of walking and stilettos may not be the best choice.

Another great feature is the animal print which is still loved by so many and will continue its popularity this spring into the summer from all indications.  Of course, to make this shoe really appealing to the ladies out there are rhinestones placed across the front that catch the light just right.

So if you are looking to find a shoe that will be fun for the summer and easy to wear, you have met your match.  Just send us message through our Facebook www.Facebook.com/DeborahStilettos and we will be happy to help you pre-order these heels or you can just stop in our store at 16 W. Bridge Street, New Hope, Pa and visit us.  It will give you a great opportunity to sip some Champaign with us, walk around and see our other beautiful heels and join our Shoe Sorority which give you many benefits in our shoe world.

Until then…Kisses Bellas,

How Young Is Too Young to Wear Heels?

Admittedly, I am 45 and come from a time where kids were not afforded their every whim. In fact, if I close my eyes, I can still see and even hear my mother give me the lecture on why I did not need a curling iron at 12.  A decision I felt was completely irrational on her part and yet I still did not get one.

Today, anything seems to go.  We have shows like Toddlers and Tiaras and little girls like Suri Holmes have been photographed wearing pumps.  So the question I ask is “how young is too young to wear heels?”

Certainly the pundits have pontificated on whether the use of high heels would cause a young girl health issues whether is be developmental or injury.  I know they do because daily there is some article written about how bad high heels are for grown women of which I simply reply so is global warming, Twinkies, and bad relationships but none of those are going away anytime soon.  And while I think there should be some consideration as to the well-being of a child and prevention of any toddler getting hurt, I think maybe we need to dig a little deeper.  What is the message we are giving to young girls?  Ok don’t blast me yet…I am not a stiff conservative but think for a minute.  We have some very strong issues in this country in this country.  Unlike my days, Seventeen Magazine is not the only game in town.  In fact today’s girls are bombarded with a plethora of subliminal messages from advertisers and the fashion world…you can’t be too thin, too pretty or even too sexy.  The models are 14 going on 25 and very few women of today’s teenage pool are represented by these girls.

We already know that these tall tales that we continue to reverberate to our young women are resulting in low self-esteem, starvation and exploitation.  Young teenage women are constantly confronted on another way to up the ante on the get sexy gamble often being bankrupt emotionally before they even get to adulthood.  So what happens when we send the same messages to toddlers and young girls.  Do we really expect a better outcome?

Before anyone goes shooting out of a cannon…I, too, wore my mother’s heels around the house and relished being a princess for Halloween where I slipped into my beautiful pink plastic pumps but these were rarities and certainly not the norm.  As I am now the mother of three almost grown children, I can understand more clearly the words my mother spoke so long ago.  What is the rush?  There is a lot to be said when the day finally comes and it is appropriate to wear heels as a right of passage.  Heels can wait but can the emotional stability of our future woman?

“The Right Shoe Can Change Your Life” Cinderella

What a clever girl that Cinderella was!  Wearing a fabulous pair of crystal heels to a ball and leaving one behind only to be discovered by a wealthy prince who was looking to get married.  Hey I would be willing to leave behind my $995.00 Christian Louboutin heel if the outcome was going to be a chance to live in castle and be able to travel to the mall in a Princess Diana like carriage. Talk about a good investment!  But, they don’t call those fairy tales for nothing.  That’s why more than ever, an affordable heel is a girl’s dream and if you happen to leave one behind…well it might be worth the $39.95!!!
