Stepping Out In Heels- Deborah Dates Again Episode II

So where to find a date…?  I’ll be honest.  I’m not completely up to this whole endeavor of catapulting myself into the dating scene just yet.  Like I have said before, so much has changed but most importantly I have changed.  I laugh when I think about how many hours I spent in the bathroom in the 80′s blowing out my hair and spraying it with multiple cans of Super-hold Aqua net Hairspray.  Hey…I’m a Jersey girl…the bigger the better.  I probably spend the same amount of time in the bathroom but now it’s trying to staple my eyelids back and glue parts of my face back on.  It may not be that bad yet but you get my point.  Is this some kind of joke dating again at 45?

I have friends that are paddling in the same boat as I am.  Stories from when I was married hanging out with other married people have been replaced with “he expected me to pay, if I heard another story about his ex-wife that he is completely over I would scream, and he runs 20 miles before work every day before doing 2000 push-ups.”  A far cry from “I’m sick of his not throwing his underwear in the hamper, I have to power jack the toothpaste out of his sink and I don’t feel like having sex when I have 106 degree temperature” that we use to sit around the table and pontificate as a bunch of married girls.

I never worried about body parts being in the right spot or worse…wandering.  Yet now I strategically plan for that first date when I use all of that duct tape I bought in the early 2000s (when someone thought that taping up our windows would protect us from an attack) and use it to counter the real weapons of humanity…gravity.  If only I could learn to walk on my hands, things would magically go back to where they were 20 years ago.

I’m not a bar scene kind of girl…my marriage cured me of that and the thought of going on an online dating service…it might work for some but I have seen some of the strays that people have attached themselves to…not really my style.  I thought maybe Barnes and Nobles or the library at least he would know how to read.  I guess when the right moment comes God will magically place him in my path or maybe he has already arrived and I haven’t even realized it.

If any of you have some funny stories to tell of dates you have had good or bad I would love to hear them.  Kisses Bellas.  Deborah Stilettos   www.DeborahStilettos.com

Stepping Out In Heels-Deborah Dates Again- Episode 1

This is the first of a series of blogs that I am going to venture down the road and write about.  The powers that be thought it would be funny since I’m 45 and embarking on the ever so scary dating scene.  I hope you enjoy.

Who would have known that I would be looking at the dating scene again at 45?  Certainly not me and yet here I am.  God does have a sense of humor doesn’t he?  Funny how many things have changed since the last time I was dating…22 years ago. For starters, there are so many new ways to get in touch with someone.  There’s cell phones, Facebook. MySpace, Email, texting, Skype…and probably a ton of other avenues that I have yet to uncover.  While I have not taken the first step out into the Sassy, Single Scene yet, it makes me wonder what you do if the date goes bad.  It is not just a matter of giving someone your wrong home number…they can track you on the internet.  So while I agree that we have come along way since the “dark ages” (as my children fondly call it) dating definately seems to be going down a path I have yet to travel.

Does anyone other than me remember a time when the guy actually did all of the calling and actually spoke the words…”would you like to have dinner?” Now a date can come by some words dancing across the screen of your cell phone (another thing we didn’t have). So much of the personal touch.  In fact you don’t even have to go and buy a card anymore…you can get one via your email and someone (had to be a man) came up with virtual roses.  What?  My next blog will be about how to look 25 pounds thinner for your first date…ok…nobody came up with that app…but I am going to embark on that as well and report to you on how my weight loss project is going.  Talk about putting it all out there on a blog. These Heels Were Made for Walking But Not Traveling

As I previously mentioned, in a few weeks I will be traveling to Las Vegas to visit the world’s biggest shoe show.  Of course, there is pressure to wear the most adorable heels because you are amongst the fashion gurus and their models.  I would love to tell you I am a throw it in a backpack and jet kind of girl but that would be like asking lightening to strike me.  Packing for an overnight trip to a friends house can be a daunting task but for the shoe show…there is planning.

The airlines have almost made it impossible for you to traveling with style and flexibility as extra baggage is almost as expensive as buying another plane ticket for your bags.  Women today are not only pressured to dress smartly but to pack that way as well.  The first thing I do now when I travel is put a lot of thought into what I will wear.  Choosing standard colors also means I can use the same shoes for different outfits.  A black suit or gray dress can both be worn with a stylish pair of black pumps.  If you are in the same situation that I will be in… where fashion is paramount, shoe accessories might be your solution.  These fabulous clip on jewels can add just enough bling to your outfit.  This gives the heel a new look- allowing any shoe to become an affordable heel.

If you truly cannot live without your shoes while you travel, consider mailing them ahead.  Just make sure you insure the package for the full replacement value of your heels, pumps, stilettos, platforms, boots and flats.  Also, make sure that you notify the hotel you will be staying that there will be a package being delivered to you so that they may keep it in a safe place until you arrive.

Well bon voyage…and may you be safe in your travels…Kisses Bellas, Deborah Stilettos – www.DeborahStilettos.com

Platform and Magic….Shoe Show From Heaven

In a few weeks, I will have the sheer pleasure of traveling to Las Vegas for the BIGGEST shoe show in the world.  Besides the fact of its fabulous location, the shoe show is the closest thing to heaven…if your not someone’s husband.  I remember the first time I went…we went through registration not really knowing what to expect.  Then we rounded the corner and crossed over the threshold and went through the doors…and my…HEAVEN.  There was music playing, gorgeous girls wearing the shortest dresses with the highest heels and shoe, heels, stilettos, flats, platforms, boots, flip flops, sneakers….EVERYWHERE!  Now I may totally sound like a drama queen but I think there was a few minutes where I was in heavy hyperventilating mode.  The ADD in me wanted to run in twelve different directions and I was momentarily certain that all the shoes would be booked before I got to sit down with each vendor.  There were sparkles, straps, glitter, bling, leather, feathers, polys, plastics…anything you can think of someone else had thought of to create a new shoe.  There were prototypes which are heels/shoes that are just outside of the box thinking and most likely won’t go to production.  This is much like the futuristic cars you will see at a car show.

It truly is an amazing experience to sit among all the different styles and narrow your choices down to seventy styles…hoping that you will pick the perfect heels for your customer.

So I will be off again and would love for anyone to put a special request in.  Thanks so much.  Kisses Bellas.  Deborah Stilettos  www.DeborahStilettos

Orange Heels & Stilettos….Orange You Glad It’s Almost Spring

Just as the winter dullness is almost through January, a glimmer of Spring was just released from the fashion heavens…orange will be hot this spring!!!  So now we are getting the full picture…chunky heels in bright colors.  This just makes me want to slip on a pair of shorts and head for the beach (better lose some weight first).  In a few weeks, I will leave for the big shoe show in Las Vegas…honest…it’s for work.  I can’t wait to scour the vendors looking for the brightest and most beautiful shoes to bring back to New Hope and for our website…DeborahStilettos.com.

Take a look at this sexy high heel sandal.

Affordable High Heels in Orange

Affordable High Heels in Orange

I really love this shoe…it’s a stiletto and not the chunky heel of the upcoming spring but it is a real show shopper.  A nice look with white pants and cute orange top.

Orange High Heel Sneakers

Orange High Heel Sneakers

These are just fun.  High heel sneakers!!  The fun little comic graphics give this heel and young spirited feel.  This of course is not for everyone but if you are feeling a little adventurous it might be worth the splurge.

Orange High Heels with Ruffles

Orange High Heels with Ruffles

This shoe is my favorite of the three. The ruffle is just enough to add a romantic edge while not being overly feminine.  A great heel to wear to a lunch date or rev it up a bit with a sexy black dress and add a dash of pizzaz.  This  heel construction gives a lot of support and the front platform absorbs some of the height of the heel.

I can’t wait for spring.  Kisses, Bellas!!!  Deborah Stilettos XXOO  www.DeborahStilettos.com

Dressing From the Bottom Up

Do you believe in love at first site?  I do.  It happens everytime I walk into the mall.  Like a voice from the heavens calling my name, I am summoned to the latest and greatest pair of high heels.  Like a magnet to metal, I am pulled by forces greater then myself where stilettos, platforms, and pumps sit graciously on their perches just waiting to be noticed by me.  I am a shoe addict.  I love all shoes but nothing lights me up more than a pair of stunners that have been marked down to  be now classified as affordable luxury…affordable heels just are even more of a draw.

One of the many reasons I opened Deborah Stilettos, located at 16 W Bridge Street in New Hope, Pennsylvania was for my love of high heels and that I was always on the hunt for the greatest unusual stilettos, pump, or platform.  Many times, I would dress from the bottom up- I would buy the heel first and then find an outfit to match.  The process allowed me to sometimes walk out of my comfort zone because the shoe was so unusual or the color was different that before I was wearing something I never pictured myself in before.  Our goal is to provide the unusual, the unique and the affordable.  We want all women to have the opportunity to wear beautiful shoes because shoes make us feel glamorous and well….female.

Not everything is hinged on heels…we have a fabulous collection of flats and have placed our orders for some very stylish sandals for this uncoming spring and summer season.  The colors are bright and shiny.  Natural elements like feathers and stones embellish others.

So next time you are in your travels and you see the shoe of a life time…grab it!!! It will be easier to find an outfit to pair with it than to find the shoe again.  Or come visit us at Deborah Stilettos or www.DeborahStilettos.com.

Looking Great at 20…Easy! At 40, Fabulous!!

Looking great at twenty is as easy as putting a hot knife through butter.  Peaches and cream complexion , smooth skin and body parts still at the point of origin are just a few of the glories of being young.  Time, stress, and elasticity have a great knack of trying to prove the the theory of gravity and once you approach the milestone of over forty…rolling out of bed and throwing something on is no longer an option.

Some may think that the greatest invention for women was Botox while others may argue that it was surely Retinal A.  I say it was neither!  The greatest discovery for women was Spanx.  Never has elastic had such a profound impact on a group of people.  If you are a man reading this blog you might be wondering what in the world “Spanx” are.  If you are a woman you might be annoyed that I am letting our little secret out of the bag but I just feel that one of our sisters might be still living under a rock and may need this little bit of advice.  I started with Spanx about nine years ago when my best friend told me of her new find.  I went to the mall the next day and ran home to try out the cure to womanhood.  Luckily, no one was home.  If they had been, they certainly would have called 911 as I was twisting and turning across my bed trying to shove parts of my body part in the undergarment much like a butcher would stuff a sausage casing.  My legs and back stretched in positions that only someone who was auditioning for Circus Soliel  would have dared.  Somehow they were finally on and I remember making the firm decision that any idea of going to the bathroom was completely out of the question.  But every bump, bulge, and lump was instantly gone and while I was not sure where they went I was certain that if the suit I was stuffed into was to ever let go I would level a room- a human weapon of mass destruction.

High heels are another phenomenon.  It always amazes me when I see  young girls schlubbing along in their flip flops.  Wake up!!  This is the time of your life when heels are your friend.  You are willing to stuff your feet into any shoe deemed as an affordable high heel just because they are cute considering nothing about comfort.  When you reach the milestone of forty and over the choices are much more calculated.  Although as self serving as this might seem, there really is nothing more elegant than a mature woman gracefully walking around in a gorgeous pair of stilettos.  Wearing heels when you are young is your calling card to elegance, grace and style for the future so don’t wait to walk in them when you get older.

There is also the process of going to sleep at night.  When you are twenty going to sleep requires nothing more than laying your head on a pillow.  When you are forty plus jars and tubes filled with promises fall out of the medicine cabinet.  My body is so greased up a seat belt is often necessary just to stay in bed. I bet there are not many twenty year olds that fear their pillow cases but forty year olds can relate when I say that a crease  left on their face from merely sleeping can be an all day event of keeping your hand on your face. This stylish high heel is just calling your name.  Looks great on those work days and blends nicely into the evening hours.  The great part about it is your feet won’t kill you at the end of the night.  The added platform in the front of the shoe also allows for easier navigation giving a nice height enhancement while not putting too much pressure on the foot.  On this particular shoe, the dainty strap is a nice contrast to this boldly stated shoe.
