Deborah Stilettos- Affordable Luxury

By now each of us has been effected in some way by the economic times.  No matter what the Wall Street predicts dressing nice and looking good never takes the back seat.  We just have to be smarter in what we buy and utilize what we already have in our closet.  One of the things that I love most about owning Deborah Stilettos in New Hope, Pa is that we strive to make fashion affordable to everyone.  Our store is modeled after the same hues that Channel made so famous in the to die for suit…cream and black.  We want our clients to experience the luxury of the shopping experience without emptying their wallets doing so.

Ok…so about that closet.  Have you been through it lately?  If you are still holding onto sizes that you haven’t seen since high school than it is time to make some money on these relics.  Take them out, clean them, press them and take some nice quality pictures and them list them on auction sites such as Ebay or sell them outright on Craig’s list. Once you have made yourself some money you will be able to invest it in some new finds.  But first, we need to come to some conclusion as to what items you actually need.

The must haves of every woman’s closet is a black skirt and dress, black slacks and perhaps tan ones as well, a white blouse, a pair of jeans, a nice belt, and one go to piece for when you are feeling a little under your game.  If you are lucky to have all of those items, it is time to add to the wardrobe.  Maybe a red skirt, cream-colored sweater or leggings would be a nice addition.  I would start off with basic colors and add color as finances allow.

The real trick of the success of any outfit is the accessories and the shoes.  If you are in the beginning stages of closet building, find shoes that are comfortable and can be paired easily with other outfits.  A pair of black pumps are a staple and the new shoe jewelry can easily be clipped on and off creating a different look with the same pair of heels.  Again, as your bank account allows, add shoes that can go with many different looks but have a pair that are real dazzlers.  Everyone needs one pair of Cinderella shoes in their closet.  Just make sure you have an outfit to wear them with otherwise they will serve no purpose.

Jewelry is another outfit maker.  Go from plain to perfectly coiffed by adding a pair of pearl stud earrings, a simple bracelet of charms perhaps or pearls, and a simple strand of pearls for your neck.  Pearls are a great beginning point because they can be worn casually or dressy and really look wonderful on all body types.

Wardrobe must haves

So don’t procrastinate any further and tackle that closet.  There’s a fabulous diva just waiting to come out.

5 Great Kitten Heels for the Spring

With a name like Deborah Stilettos, it seems funny that I would be writing about kitten heels but I love all heels.  When you see below the fabulous discoveries I found at the Magic Shoe Show in Las Vegas, you will understand my excitement.

#1: This first heel is fun, flirty and supports my platform of affordable heels and affordable fashion.  The shoe captures all the things women love in a shoe.  The leopard top is always one of the biggest sellers in our stores and I know this one will be no different.  The gemstones add a feature that cannot be denied from any woman who like to shimmer.  Of course, the most outstanding aspect of this lovely kitten heel is the heel.  The heart shape heel is an attention getter and will definitely stop traffic.  While it may not appear to be that way, this heel is remarkably easy to walk in.

Pre-Order Now $39.95 Deborah Stilettos

#2- The circles on this heel encrusted in rhinestone will turn heads as you walk by.  The upper is a cheetah chiffon giving a mix of the edginess of the animal print with the feminine touch of the chiffon.  While this heels looks as though you will be walking around on heels, it is much more like walking on a wedge.

Pre-Order Now $39.95 Deborah Stilettos

#3: Electrifyingly stunning, this 2 1/2″ heel makes a night on the town flirty while getting through the whole night in your heels.  The heel is slatted in the back allowing light to filter through.

#4: In strike comparison to the other heels featured here, this kitten heel is not represented properly in this picture.  When placed on the foot, this simple, slightly ruffled heel in nude screams “I am woman” in a sweet gentle way.  It is soft and easy to navigate on it’s two-inch heel.  Great for the office, ladies luncheon or a romantic dinner.  I think this is a great shoe for Easter as well and even a mother of the bride heel.

#5: Last but certainly not least, this sandal-like heel is sure to dazzle if you are lucky enough to dine beach front this summer.  A great transition shoe from day to-night.  the two-inch heel and comfortable front embellished in rhinestone makes this a must have.

7 Ways to Get Ready in the Morning and Still Put On Heels

Morning can be brutal.  Especially if you have teenage sons who need to get to high school but can’t seem to peel them from the comforts of their beds.  The worst thing that can happen besides having a flat tire or that both of your kids need lunch money and you only have one check left is not being able to find anything to wear in your closet.  Much to the disbelief of  those closest to me, I can find myself in this very whirlwind.  For full disclosure, I am not quick to let my clothes go and therefore have managed to amass quite a wardrobe inventory.  So it is only natural for those who I call my friends and family to squawk at my dilemma of not finding anything. However, this is only the tip of the iceberg on ways to make the most of my morning minutes.

Pointer #1: Plan ahead!  Nothing is worse than being on a time schedule and not finding something to wear or worse finding out that it no longer fits or that the spaghetti dinner you dripped on your front  is still interwoven amid the fibers of your favorite sweater.  Instead, browse through your closet the night before careful to consider the next days weather, schedule regimen, and places you need to visit.  This little extra preparation will save you the time and gray hair in the morning.

Pointer #2: Make sure the pantyhose you are planning to wear doesn’t have a run in them.  Nothing can send a morning in a further tail spin than having the perfect outfit to wear and not have stockings without a run.  If putting pantyhose on the night before is not something that is in your bag of tricks, then be sure to have back up pairs in case one of these mishaps takes place.

Pointer #3: Style your hair the night before.  By the time you have reached 45, you have long given up the dream of rolling out of bed and going, but a little styling of the hair the night before will definitely cut the style and curl time in the morning.

Pointer #4: For many other reasons than saving time in the morning, take your makeup off the night before going to bed.  Your skin will be refreshed in the morning and less likely to break out in an acne rebellion.  A fresh skin canvas is much easier to paint than one that has to recover from plaster being chipped off.

Pointer #5: When picking out the perfect heels the night before, plan on a secondary pair to bring with you or to wear in case that jar of salted peanuts you ate the night before doesn’t pump you full of air like a Macy’s Day parade balloon the night before the big event leaving your feet three sizes bigger than you went to sleep.

Pointer #6: Buy a timer coffee pot.  You will wake up to the fresh smells of coffee brewing and it will cut down on your wait time at Dunkin Donuts…not to mention the money you will save to hire a chauffeur to take you to work in the morning in twenty years.

Pointer #7: If the day gets to far ahead of  itself after an hour of rising…take your heels off, call into work that you are suffering from some strange virus and crawl back to bed.  Tomorrow is another day!

7 Ways to Get Over Your Ex…While Wearing Heels

Ok…so you are a little down in the dumps.  Valentine’s Day has come and gone and your ex is nothing but a mere carmel chocolate found on the bottom of your heel…still there but needs to be scraped off before ruining something else.  We have all been there…I’ve been there and while you do need time to lament about losing him and all his baggage…today might be a good time to pull out your favorite heels from the bottom of the closet.  You know the ones you haven’t worn in forever because his idea of fine dining was Olive Garden.

Step 1:  Make a list of five of his redeeming qualities.  You know when you can’t get past two the dreams of tomorrow are better left in the past.  Instead make a list of your redeeming qualities and don’t stop until you get to page ten.

Step 2: Go buy yourself an expensive bar of Godiva chocolate and eat all of it.  There are no calories when healing so let this be your moment of salvation and lick the paper if you are so inclined.

Step 3:  Cover all of the mirrors in your house- unless you are built like Gisselle and prance around the house imagining yourself as twenty pounds thinner and nothing less than fabulous in your best lingerie and of course those heels I told you to take out of the closet.  I would like to warn you to do this when the kids are in school or with no chance of your teenage sons coming home with their friends…who needs more disapproval.

Step 4: Visit all of those websites you have been dying to venture through ( a good one to start is DeborahStilettos.com) and buy something with all that mad money you now have that you don’t have to buy him a birthday present.

Step 5: Don’t shave your legs for two weeks as a sign of freedom of being sexy.  Of course this is best to do in the winter or when you don’t plan on wearing a dress or a skirt.  And pray…you are not in an accident.

Step 6: Say goodbye to your thong for at least a weekend.  Come on…you know they are horrible.  We all wear them because someone told us they are sexy…but nothing is sexy about wearing dental floss as a rectal themometer.  So freedom ladies until you are ready to date again.

Step 7: Be kind to yourself and take a minute to laugh at this blog.  Breaking up is hard to do but adventuring into a new life of fabulosity is sweet success. And don’t forget your heels.

5 Vintage Black Dresses that Heels Would Be Dying to Pair

A staple in every woman’s closet…the Little Black Dress…the standby when nothing else can be found or the go to dress for that special night out on the town.  The little black dress has made the top of our must have list because it is that one piece in your wardrobe that won’t let you down.  Black is a natural slenderizer, sexy and can be easily paired with an array of heels, flats, or stilettos.

However, the black dress is nothing that is new on the scene.  This year, at the 2012 Magic Shoe Show in Las Vegas, they paid homage to our true and tested friend.  I thought you would enjoy traveling down the fashion timeline with me.

1940′s

Ceil Chapman

While this is hardly a “little” black dress, it was a dress that dared to show leg or arm in a time when this was taboo.  This dress is machine-made using a blend of silk and horsehair!  As an american designer, Ms. Chapman first made her fashion debut by partnering with Gloria Vanderbilt.  When she went on her own, she managed to design fashions for the stars of the 1950′s such as Marilyn Monroe and designed and constructed Elizabeth Taylor’s wedding dress when she wed Nicky Hilton.

1950′s

Christian Dior

The 1950′s did not bring much more to the sensitiveness of the black dress but this Christian Dior stunner was everything a woman was to be when showing her feminine side.  The narrow waist of this dress was designed by Dior to give a flowering effect on the bottom while accentuating a woman’s waist.  While at the helm of the Dior empire, Christian became the most successful couture houses in Paris.  Hollywood starlets of the time flocked to his showrooms along with the Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret.  It seemed that Dior was part of every woman’s dream.  Today, the house of Dior continues to design and produce breathtaking fashion.

1960′s

Andre Courreges

The 1960′s not only brought a new way of living but also allowed for a change in style never before contemplated.  The 60′s was the Age of Aquarius and Free Love so it was only natural that the Little Black Dress took a hard right turn and shortened in length and bared more of the body. Having an engineering background, Courreges’ style had the structure of well designed architectural masterpiece.  His signature was the cutout and he was bold in placing the cuts in the mid-drift and near the bust line.  Courreges is credited for being the originator of the mini dress.

1960's the Start of the Mini Dress

1970′s

Cristobal Balenciaga

Of Spanish decent, Cristobal Balenciaga relied on his background for much of his designs. The House of Balenciaga was once run by a German group that encouraged Cristobal in his european flare of design.  Today, the 1970 couture house is owned and run by the world renowned design guru, Gucci. This organza flared dress is simple is construction yet it is light and feminine. This number was inspired by the flamingo dancers that a young Balenciaga watched as a child.  As the fashion world continue to change into the 1980′s, Balenciaga refused to give up the principles of design of which he had been using for decades.  Instead of conforming to the new sense of style, he just closed up all of his shops.

1970's Spanish Influenced Black Dress

1980′s

Zandra Rhodes

A flashback to my high school and college years, this woolen dress was short and was ready to make a splash.  As a British designer, Zandra’s designs were classified as “outrageous” by the traditional British people and their designers.  While Ms. Rhodes was best known for her busy prints using geometric patterns and bright colors, she did love creating the black silhouette dress that was perfected in its attention to detail.  One of her most noted clients was the beloved Princess Diana who put Rhodes on the design world map.  However, her true flare was shown in her costume designs for Freddie Mercury of Queen fame.

1980's Designer to Princess Diana

And so there you have it…fashion through the ages.  While these pretty little frocks go back as far as seventy years, I would be thrilled to wear anyone of them.  Who is your favorite modern-day designer…and why?

10 Things I Learned About Heels at the Shoe Show

This past week has been a girl’s dream come true.  The Las Vegas Convention Center was filled from one side to the other in heels, stilettos, flats, boots, athletic shoes, wedges, platforms and pumps for the 2012 Magic/Platform Show.  A sneak preview on what is soon to be the fashion statement for the spring.  Fashion has taken a few twists and turns from the days in which it was a fashion faux pas to wear white shoes before Memorial Day.  In fact, this spring fashion focus was anything goes.  Below is a list of some of the amazing trends, treats and the 10 things I learned about this spring’s heels.

1- Glitter and gemstones were once an embellishments saved for after hours.  This spring, having shimmer, is encouraged during the day.  You will pretty much see these additions on all shoes from the very statureous stiletto to the fun-loving beach sandals.  This Spring celebrates the femininity of women and lets her shine in all environments.  On a side note, there were glitter pumps in almost every hue imaginable paired with jeans and matching tee shirts.  I must say…it was really a fun look …defying that glitter must be saved for fancier occasions.

2- Bright citrus colors are everywhere.  There is no doubt that this spring will be bright and beautiful.  Lime green, oranges, and yellows were featured on many of the shoes of the show.  Now many of these colors may not be a part of your go to color palette but I was really inspired to see how beautiful many of these heels, flats and sandals looked when simply paired with a pair of white pants.  The look was fresh and happy.  A nice transition from the gray of the winter.

Lime Green Wedges with Tassel Ties Available in March

3- I was a bit taken back to find some of the fabrics being used this spring were velvets and velveteens.  I actually questioned one of the vendors and she explained that this fabric was one of three fabrics (the others being a spandex-like material and plastic) that was able to truly capture the bright colors of the spring.  So don’t be surprised to see those textures.  I have to say they really did reflect the colors beautifully.

4- The heel was definitely in grand play.  From the very high to the kitten heel, there was much concentration on the heel having its own flair.  While the stilettos still had their place amongst the styles, the heels definitely grew in girth.  This is exciting for those who struggle to balance on a stiletto heel.  The heel also took on many different forms from heart shapes, to cuts outs, to not even being there giving the front of the shoe all the bearing weight.  It was really amazing to see how many ways they were able to create the back of the shoe.  Gone are the days where only those who can wear high heels will be able to have heel variation.  We purchased the heel below which is 2 inches and I can almost predict how fast they will move off the shelves at our Deborah Stiletto stores.

5- Cheetah, zebra, snake are still hot, hot, hot!!  It was nice to see that many of the designers incorporated the ostrich among the mix but breathe a sigh of relief ladies…the animal in all of us is still alive and well.  These beloved prints were on everything and many were accented with gemstones giving them a nice edgy look.

6-Bohemian prints did capture some of the wedges and flats. I will be the first to admit that many of these prints are not my favorites yet the colors offered in the upcoming season were very alluring. While the earth tones were still part of the selection base, there were also vibrant oranges, turquoises, and magentas.  Making these very relaxed and low-key styles exciting and fun to wear.

Deborah Stilettos Collection Pre-Order Now $39.95

7- In conjunction with the Bohemian styles was the tribal flair.  Just like their counterpart, these too were offered in an array of bright colors following the theme of bright colors.  However, these prints just seem to do better in their brown, beige, and black combinations.  The just seem to be more authentic and natural when paired with the muted earth tones.

Deborah Stilettos Collection Pre-Order Now $42.95

8- Flats and sandals have sometimes taken the back seat when it comes to pizzazz but not true in the spring of 2012.  No stone was left unturned when  designing the heel-less shoe.  Instead, many were adorned in gemstones, glitter, and feathers. Buckles were intricate or sparkled. Straps were made with interesting materials to accent the rest of the shoe. No longer do flats have the matronly look but dazzle in every way as its sister, the stiletto. So those who can’t or chose not to strut their stuff in heels, fashion will follow you to your flat wears.

Deborah Stilettos Collection Pre-Order Now $24.95

9- Women’s footwear is breaking out of the gate with a force.  No longer an after thought of an outfit, the heel, stiletto or flat is taking center stage.  Many of the shoe offered this spring will be the center pieces of the outfit. With gemstones and glitter being so prominent, it is almost like jewelry for the feet.  They are statement makers and heels worthy of building an outfit around.  Who would have ever thought that clothes would become an accessory?

10- On a side note, if you ever happen to be in Las Vegas, for business or pleasure, consider wearing a wide based heel.  I wore a stunning, red Mary Jane stiletto from my collection that added almost seven inches to my 5’1″ height. I couldn’t help myself….I was attending the event of shoe events and I wanted to make sure I was holding my own. The event came to a close and the taxi line was enormous so off I went.  My hotel looked much closer than it was in reality.  With each of the casinos trying to out do its neighbor, the cobblestones, brick, stamped concrete walkways made navigating the terrain a challenge…but what the heck…it’s all in the name of fashion!
