In 1992 under the guidance of Charles Jourdan, Louboutin trained in the art of woman shoe design and crafting.  According to the Metropolitan Museum of Art- Costume Institute, it was with Jourdan and his beginning job at the Folies Bergeres that this new innovative designer began to understand the art of high heel walking was in “posture and proportion.”

Christian made his way through some of the most famous couture houses in France such as Chanel and Maud Frizon before settling down in 1992.  It was in his home country that the talents of Mr. Louboutin exploded. Making headlines in the fashion world and creating a frenzy among well coifed and wealthy women to wear his shoes, it was not long before this new designer made his way to the United States.

The trademark red under sole is the signature of the famed couture house and one that Mr. Louboutin has fought ferociously to defend and maintain.  As we speak, the US high courts are still deciding whether a color can actually be trademarked of which he responds “that it is not the color but the placement of this specific color of red” that he is fighting for the rights.  While there have been others that have mimicked the success of the red bottom heel and have been sued by the famous couture house, most recently Yves St. Laurent is the latest vying for the right.  The fashion world will just have to wait to see the outcome.

Until then, women delight in wearing the Louboutin red bottomed shoe because it is a sign of style, fashion and of wealth.  So how did the color red come about in the design aspect of his high heels?  Christian was in the process of creating a prototype that was reflective of the Pop Art Era when he felt that the bottom of the heel was too dark for what he was trying to create.  One of his assistance has a bottle of red nail polish that he quickly used to paint the bottom of the new creation.  Viola…the birth of the Louboutin logo.

The average Christian Louboutin high heel is around $700.00 extending to the thousands.  You will not be hard pressed to see celebrities wearing these beauties to red carpet events nor will you have to search long to find a high ranked business woman walking to her next meeting in them.  The craze of Louboutin heels took to a broader market when the beloved character Carrie from Sex and the City suffered from let’s say a small heel addiction and between Blatnik and Louboutin sucess was inevitable.

Christian Louboutin has given us twenty years of sugar high heel perfection.  If you are a shoe crazed maniac like I am, you cannot help but in complete awe of the collections he has brought to us.

“The Right Shoe Can Change Your Life” Cinderella

What a clever girl that Cinderella was!  Wearing a fabulous pair of crystal heels to a ball and leaving one behind only to be discovered by a wealthy prince who was looking to get married.  Hey I would be willing to leave behind my $995.00 Christian Louboutin heel if the outcome was going to be a chance to live in castle and be able to travel to the mall in a Princess Diana like carriage. Talk about a good investment!  But, they don’t call those fairy tales for nothing.  That’s why more than ever, an affordable heel is a girl’s dream and if you happen to leave one behind…well it might be worth the $39.95!!!
